چکیده
To measure the degree of polarization of a plasma emission, a polarization-resolved UV-visible Czerny-Turner-type spectrometer was designed and constructed. For a high spectral resolution, F=1 m mirrors were used as a focusing and collimating mirrors and the incidence angles to the mirrors were determined to eliminate coma. The effect of astigmatism was reduced by designing the incidence angles to the mirrors to be as small as possible. The flat focal plane condition proposed by Reader [J. Opt. Soc. Am. 59, 1189 (1969)] was used to determine the grating position. The measured spatial resolution was 170 microm. To simultaneously measure the intensities with two perpendicular polarizations, a calcite crystal was placed after the entrance slit of the spectrometer. The change in the imaging property of the spectrometer due to the calcite crystal was measured and minimized. The spectral resolution was experimentally measured with a laser produced plasma to be 0.05 nm at 348 nm. The resolving power measured is 6600.

متن کاملBroadband femtosecond circular dichroism spectrometer with white-light polarization control.
A broadband, femtosecond transient circular dichroism (TRCD) spectrometer has been developed and tested in the wavelength range from 350 to 700 nm. The spectrometer uses a femtosecond probe white light with well-defined circular polarization. The latter is modulated by the polarization of a narrowband seed pulse. We have implemented a dual-beam probe geometry with phase-locked detection techniq...
متن کاملHigh-throughput on-the-fly scanning ultraviolet-visible dual-sphere spectrometer.
We have developed an on-the-fly scanning spectrometer operating in the UV-visible and near-infrared that can simultaneously perform transmission and total reflectance measurements at the rate better than 1 sample per second. High throughput optical characterization is important for screening functional materials for a variety of new applications. We demonstrate the utility of the instrument for...
متن کاملMeasurement of the degree of polarization of the spectra from laser produced recombining Al plasmas.
Using a polarization-resolved UV-visible spectrometer, the degree of polarization of the spectra from laser produced Al plasmas was measured. The polarization resolution was achieved by using either a dichroic polarizer or a calcite crystal. The degree of polarization of Al III 4s(2)S(1/2)-4p(2)P(o)(3/2) transition at 569.66 nm was measured at different positions from a target surface. The degr...

We report on the development of a low-cost spectrometer, based on off-the-shelf optical components, a 3D printed housing, and a modified Raspberry Pi camera module. With a bandwidth and spectral resolution of ≈60 nm and 1 nm, respectively, this device was designed for ultraviolet (UV) remote sensing of atmospheric sulphur dioxide (SO2), ≈310 nm. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first...
